How Wispra works — and why it isn't pay-to-rank
Wispra is open data infrastructure, not a paid-placement scheme. Listing is free, ranking is earned by data quality, and citations are never sold. Here is exactly how, in full transparency.
Our core principle
An AI directory only deserves to be cited if it is neutral. So we built neutrality into the structure, not just the marketing: every business is listed for free, our data is published as open data anyone can audit, and no business can buy a better ranking or a citation. Paid plans only save time on structuring data and content — never visibility itself.
Is listing in the Wispra directory free?
Yes. Any legitimate business can be listed and have its data structured for AI engines for free, with no credit card and no commitment. Being listed, indexed and cited never requires payment.
How does Wispra rank businesses?
Ranking and surfacing are driven only by data signals: completeness of the listing, freshness of the data, verification (Story Reviews), and relevance to the query. None of these signals can be bought. A free listing with excellent data outranks a paid listing with poor data — by design.
Do you sell ranking or citations?
No. This is our non-payola pledge. There is no sponsored placement, no paid boost, and no way to pay to be cited by an AI engine. Selling citations would destroy the trust that makes the directory worth citing in the first place.
Then what exactly do paid plans buy?
Time. Paid plans are done-for-you services: we structure your data, enrich your content, connect your sources (Shopify, WooCommerce, Google Business Profile), and monitor your AI visibility for you. You could do all of it yourself for free — paying simply saves you the effort.
How do you guarantee neutrality is real?
Because you can verify it. The full directory is published as open data under the ODC-By-1.0 license through a public API, so anyone can audit the ordering and confirm it is not pay-to-rank. Transparency is the guarantee: we can't hide a paid bias in data everyone can read.
Why does this matter for AI engines?
Generative engines increasingly avoid citing pay-to-rank directories because their rankings are unreliable. A neutral, open, verifiable source is exactly what an AI wants to cite. Our neutrality is therefore also our distribution strategy.
A neutral source you can list on for free
List your business, keep control of your data, and let AI engines cite you on merit.
